Hamilton County Commissioners to Vote on Giving Funding to Planned Parenthood: Your Urgent Action Needed
October 16, 2008--
A joint action alert from
Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati, Citizens for Community Values and the Coalition Opposed to Additional Spending and Taxes (COAST)
Wednesday, October 15, the Hamilton County Commission considered approval of a $26,225 contract between the County and Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Ohio in Cincinnati.
The item would have been passed Wednesday, except that Commissioner Pat DeWine raised objections, delaying a vote.
Now, the grant proposal vote before the County Commission is scheduled for next Wednesday, October 22, 9:30 a.m.
See resolution.
ACTION: Please call or email the Hamilton County Commission to prevent this misuse of County funds-citizen tax dollars!
Please contact Commissioners Todd Portune and David Pepper opposing this misuse of tax dollars.
Commissioner Pat DeWine will oppose the Planned Parenthood funding at next week's meeting.
The County claims to be in the middle of a budget crisis, and yet over $26,000 can be allocated to abortion business Planned Parenthood.
Background:
This matter continues but what is known so far:
- Wednesday of this week, a resolution was presented to the Commission calling for a vote to approve a contract with Planned Parenthood that already had been "entered into" by the County's Family and Children First Council. Hamilton County Commission Chairman Todd Portune also chairs the County's Family and Children First Council. (http://www.hamilton-co.org/hcfcfc/).
- It appears that this County agency entered into a non-binding contract for "family planning direct health care services" with Planned Parenthood in April of this year.
- Note that money granted to Planned Parenthood for one project frees funds for their abortion business. Planned Parenthood is the leading abortion chain in this country, responsible for 25% of all abortions performed.

Planned Parenthood Publishes Misleading Abstinence Ads
August 18, 2008--Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Ohio in Cincinnati is taking out newspaper ads in local papers promoting their "abstinence" program, in which they offer a brochure for parents who "want" to talk to their children about abstinence.
These ads are misleading.
Life Decisions International's web site states, "Planned Parenthood teaches there are no "rights" or "wrongs" with any sexual activity so long as there are no "victims." It
vehemently opposes sex education programs that focus on abstinence, and has filed lawsuits against school districts that implement such programs."
According to the
Planned Parenthood Federation of America's own web site Planned Parenthood promotes "comprehensive sex education" as opposed to abstinence until marriage: "contraception and condom use, sexually transmitted infection, sexual orientation, safer sex practices, abortion, communications and coping skills, and the emotional aspects of sexual relationships."
"Whether you're a teen or an older adult, and whether you're LGBT or straight ... abstinence is an equal opportunity choice! Everyone chooses to abstain from sex, at least sometimes! Some people may choose to be sexually abstinent in certain circumstances. A person who just broke up with someone might abstain from dating and sex play because being close to another person might not feel right, yet. Others may choose to be abstinent throughout certain periods of their lives, regardless of what circumstances arise."
"Abstinence is right for different people at different times for different reasons. Only you can ultimately decide what is right for you and your body. Trust the messages that your mind and body give you. If something doesn't feel right, you can always exercise your right to abstain from it - whether it's sex, alcohol, other drugs, or French fries."
"Most people stop being sexually abstinent at some point in their lives.] When you decide not to be abstinent, it's important to have information and access to methods of birth control and ways to protect yourself from infection."
Note that Planned Parenthood's definition of abstinence is one of personal control--abstain from sex only if and when you want to--sexual activity of any kind with any one is fine. But the virtue of chastity is the true choice for sexual wholeness--purity and virginity for the unmarried, and sexual intimacy treasured as a God-given gift for within a marriage.
